Is there milk in the fridge?

Technological Determinism

We all have some type of device that we love and use frequently.  I remember years ago when I first got my IPhone, I was up for hours figuring everything out and seeing all the options that it could do.  Though I think it is crazy to see those people who stand in line for the newest and greatest devices for hours or days. There's no way I would do that.

Sure, it would be a good feature to get notifications about things going on around my house, but I don't need to be told via email or text message when the milk is almost out in my fridge.  I am fine with just opening it up and looking around to see what I need to buy.

I still have the IPhone 4 and my Mac is over 5 years ago.  I don't feel the need to upgrade my devices to the latest and greatest.  People think they NEED to have the best devices around and get up to date with the new technologies.

For the most part I feel that we ( or at least I) are in the drivers seat, but sometimes we are in the passenger seat.  I chose the new technologies that I purchase and use.   Technology will continue to change and grow, people will purchase the new devices so they don't feel like they are being left behind, its all about our desire for something new, upgraded and shiny.  New technologies definitely have a place in our society, but there are also downfalls that come with it.
